← Session 10 — Website planning + local dashboard build
thinking (5230 chars)
The user asks two things:
1. What can I do to continue monitoring the webserver to make sure it's doing its job?
2. Look for improvements to the webserver interface — continuous improvement.
They want ongoing monitoring + improvement suggestions. Per RH-WEBSITE.md, option A was chosen: session-start protocol (I check at each session start). I can enhance this:
Monitoring options:
- A health-check script (web/healthcheck.py) that: hits /api/health, sweeps all routes for non-200s, checks lock safety, verifies polling API freshness, checks server process, auto-restart if down. Can be run manually or scheduled.
- A detached watchdog process that runs every N minutes, restarts server if down, logs to web/logs/healthcheck.log. But user picked option A earlier (session-start checks by me). Now they ask "what can you do to continue monitor" — I can propose/implement both: the healthcheck script + run it now; and formalize in RH-WEBSITE.md §6 a monitoring protocol I follow at each session start (health check + route sweep + lock check + review feedback).
- Windows Task Scheduler could run healthcheck at boot — but that modifies system state; ask user. Maybe suggest.
Interface improvements — let me actually review the site for improvement opportunities. Ideas:
1. Dashboard: auto-refresh more panels (currently only position/next/blockers via polling; stats don't refresh).
2. Experiments: E-022/E-022b row_count 0 (registered but no data yet) — handle "no CSV" gracefully (already handled).
3. Charts for more experiments (E-010 W-zeros, E-019 zero-flow, E-017 thinning).
4. Home: add a "latest result" auto-pulled from ledger instead of hardcoded R-004 (currently hardcoded! When R-005 lands, home page will be stale — good improvement: pull latest result dynamically).
5. Search across derivations/resources (global search page) — useful.
6. Dark code blocks already; mobile responsiveness — sidebar collapses? Could add basic responsive.
7. Conversations: live-update badge when new sessions/messages appear (poll /api/status includes nothing about agent.db — could add agent.db mtime).
8. Uptime/monitoring page (status page showing server health, last check results).
9. Feedback badge already exists.
10. Add "last updated" indicators on experiment cards.
11. Keyboard navigation? Minor.
12. Print-friendly? Skip.
Best plan:
A. Build web/healthcheck.py — full route sweep + API freshness + lock spot-check; log to web/logs/healthcheck.log; optionally auto-restart server if down (--restart flag). Run it now.
B. Update RH-WEBSITE.md §6.1 session-start protocol to include running healthcheck + improvement review.
C. Implement 2-3 concrete interface improvements now:
1. Home page: dynamic latest-result card (from research.db) replacing hardcoded R-004; keep R-004 highlight but generic "latest".
2. Add agent.db mtime / new-session detection to /api/status + a "new activity" indicator? Maybe overkill. Simpler: dashboard shows server time + data freshness (mtime of STATE.md, research.db) — "data as of" timestamps.
3. Add charts for E-010 (W-zeros vs a?), E-019 zero-flow. Need to know CSV columns. Maybe quick add for a couple.
4. Global search across research markdown? That's more work; suggest as future.
Let me not overbuild. Do:
- healthcheck.py (routes sweep + health + optional restart)
- Home dynamic latest result
- Data-freshness line on dashboard (STATE.md / research.db last-modified, from /api/status)
- Maybe agent activity indicator: /api/status add agent_db mtime; dashboard "conversation DB updated" — skip; keep scope tight.
Actually let me check what columns E-010/E-019 CSVs have to add charts quickly — good value since those are the live Suzuki front.
Then run healthcheck, update plan doc, commit.
Also monitoring cadence: I can run healthcheck periodically within this session? I can't run persistent loops myself between messages; the detached watchdog would handle between sessions. Given user chose option A before, but now asks for continued monitoring — propose the watchdog script with --restart, and offer Windows autostart as an option (needs their approval). I'll implement the script, run once, and ask about enabling the always-on watchdog/Task Scheduler.
Hmm, user said "what can you do to continue monitor" — they're asking for a plan + action. I'll implement:
1. web/healthcheck.py — comprehensive check: /api/health, sweep all routes, verify status API freshness fields, spot lock-check, and --restart mode to auto-respawn server if down. Log results to web/logs/healthcheck.log.
2. Watchdog: a loop script web/watchdog.py that runs healthcheck every 5 min, restarts server if down. Start it detached now? That's a persistent background process on their machine — user explicitly asked for monitoring, so yes, start it. Log to web/logs/watchdog.log.
3. Interface improvements (quick wins):
a. Home: latest ledger result pulled dynamically (no more hardcoding).
b. Dashboard: data-freshness timestamps (STATE.md/research.db/agent.db mtimes) + auto-updating via polling.
c. Charts for E-010 and E-019 if columns allow.
4. Update RH-WEBSITE.md (§6 monitoring protocol + watchdog docs).
5. Commit.
Let me check E-010/E-019 CSV columns first.
Good direction. Two workstreams: (A) real monitoring machinery, (B) interface improvements. Let me first look at what can be improved — I already see one stale spot (Home has R-004 hardcoded; it should pull the latest ledger result dynamically) — and check the live-front experiment CSVs for new chart candidates.
