Good diagnostics. Errors:
1. **Line 206 (bern_term_lower)**: linarith failed — goal after h2: `↑n/↑m − 1 ≤ (1−1/↑m)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑m`. From h2: 1 − n/m ≤ (1−1/m)^n. linarith should do: (1−1/m)^n ≥ 1 − n/m ⟹ (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m ≥ −n/m + n/m... wait: goal LHS n/m − 1, RHS (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m: RHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m − n/m + 1 = (1−1/m)^n ≥ ... hmm no: RHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0? Not quite: RHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m − (n/m − 1) = (1−1/m)^n. So need (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0! I conflated with bern_term_nonneg's goal (0 ≤ RHS). The countermodel shows a✝ : RHS < n/m − 1 i.e. (1−1/m)^n < 0. Need nonneg of the power: have h3 : 0 ≤ (1 − 1/(m:ℝ))^n := pow_nonneg (by ...) n. Wait but h2 alone insufficient: from h2: (1−1/m)^n ≥ 1 − n/m; RHS = (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m ≥ (1−n/m) − 1 + n/m = 0 — that gives 0 ≤ RHS i.e. RHS ≥ 0, but goal is RHS ≥ n/m − 1. n/m − 1 ≤ 0? No! n/m can exceed 1. Hmm: RHS − (n/m − 1) = (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0 ✓ so need pow_nonneg. Add: have h3 : (0:ℝ) ≤ (1 − 1/(m:ℝ))^n := pow_nonneg (by ... ) n; linarith [h3]. The (1 − 1/m) ≥ 0: 1/m ≤ 1 ✓. Actually simpler: drop h2 entirely; use pow_nonneg only:
```lean
have hpos : (0:ℝ) ≤ 1 - 1/(m:ℝ) := by
have h4 : (1:ℝ)/m ≤ 1 := by rw [div_le_one (by positivity)]; exact hm1
linarith
have h3 : (0:ℝ) ≤ (1 - 1/(m:ℝ))^n := pow_nonneg hpos n
linarith
```
RHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n ✓ linarith closes. Drop the Bernoulli part (not needed!). Funny — the lower bound n/m − 1 ≤ h⁺(m) is actually trivial from (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0 alone. And bern_term_nonneg (0 ≤ h⁺) DOES need Bernoulli (for m < n). OK.
2. **Finset.card_Icc unknown**: the name is `Nat.card_Icc`? In Mathlib: `Nat.card_Icc : (Finset.Icc a b).card = b + 1 - a` ✓ it's in Nat namespace. Fix: `Nat.card_Icc`.
3. **bern_term_lower type mismatch**: the goal sum uses `(2 * ↑k + 1 : ℝ)` (from oddHarm's body `(1:ℝ)/(2*k+1)` — k cast to ℝ then arithmetic) while bern_term_lower n (2*k+1) gives casts `↑(2*k+1)`. Defeq but `exact` failed?? It says "has type ↑n/↑(2*k+1) − 1 ≤ ... but expected ↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ ..." — defeq via push_cast but exact's defeq check should handle... it didn't (maybe reducibility). Fix: transform: `have h := bern_term_lower n (2*k+1) (by omega); have hc : ((2*k+1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2*(k:ℝ)+1 := by push_cast; ring; rwa [hc] at h`. But wait — the sum's function: in the second calc step I wrote the body with `((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ)` casts — but the error shows the goal has `↑n / (2 * ↑k + 1)` — meaning the FIRST calc step's RHS `∑ k, (↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1)` uses 2*↑k+1 (from oddHarm's `(1:ℝ)/(2*k+1)` where k coerced to ℝ: (2*↑k+1) — hmm in oddHarm def I wrote `(1 : ℝ) / (2 * k + 1)` with k : ℕ — elaborates to 1/(2*↑k + 1)? (2*k+1 : ℝ) with k cast — yes mixed arithmetic casts k only). So after calc step 1, the comparison happens between `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1` (ℝ-arith) and my step-2 body with `↑(2*k+1)` — the Finset.sum_le_sum subgoal is `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ body(↑(2*k+1))`. Fix: in step 2's body, use `(2 * (k:ℝ) + 1 : ℝ)` form instead of `((2*k+1 : ℕ):ℝ)`:
`(1 - 1 / (2 * (k:ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n:ℝ)/(2*(k:ℝ)+1)`. Then bern_term_lower application needs cast massage: have h := bern_term_lower n (2*k+1) (by omega); rw [show ((2*k+1:ℕ):ℝ) = 2*(k:ℝ)+1 by push_cast; ring] at h; exact h. And hconv accordingly. Alternatively make step-1 produce ↑(2k+1) form: change mul_one_div rewrite... the 2*↑k+1 comes from oddHarm's def; simplest to adapt step 2.
Hmm wait, actually bern_term_lower's conclusion also has `↑n/↑(2k+1) − 1` — but the goal's LHS is `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1`: defeq. `exact` uses isDefEq at default transparency — should have worked... unless the (m : ℝ) subtype coercion in SInfty's body confuses... no, this error is purely ℕ→ℝ. It says type mismatch — sometimes exact with defeq still fails on pow/casts? Let me just do the rw-based massage.
4. **rw [← Finset.sum_image hinj] failed**: pattern `∑ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ?f (oddEmb x)` not found — because the goal's sum has body `(1 − 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n ...` where the summand is `fun k => body(oddEmb k)` — for the rw to match, unification must see the body as `?f (oddEmb x)` — higher-order pattern: ?f := fun m => (1 − 1/↑↑m)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑m — should unify by pattern unification (body is literally an application of a function of oddEmb k... the body mentions oddEmb k multiple times: pattern unification abstracts all occurrences ✓ should work). Why did it fail? Because `Finset.sum_image hinj` equation: `∑ x ∈ s.image f, g x = ∑ x ∈ s, g (f x)` — with f := oddEmb, g := ?m. rw [← ...] rewrites instances of RHS pattern `∑ x ∈ ?s, ?g (oddEmb x)` → LHS. The error "did not find occurrence of pattern ∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?m (oddEmb x)" — but goal HAS that shape... unless the summand function isn't syntactically `fun k => body(oddEmb k)`? The goal shows `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ↑↑(oddEmb k)) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑(oddEmb k))` — it IS that shape. Hmm — but `?m` must be a function of the subtype element; pattern unification needs `?m (oddEmb x)` where x is the bound var — the body contains `oddEmb k` with k the bound variable ✓. Should match... unless hinj's shape differs: Finset.sum_image (h : ∀ x ∈ s, ∀ y ∈ s, f x = f y → x = y) — my hinj matches with s := Icc 1 K, f := oddEmb ✓. The rewrite's LHS has metavariables f, g, s; rewriting backwards: find `∑ x ∈ ?s, ?g (?f x)` — second-order; Lean uses keyed matching: key is `Finset.sum` — then it tries to unify summand `?g (?f x)` with `body(oddEmb k)`: higher-order unification problem with TWO metavariables — ambiguous, and Lean's pattern inference for rw [← h] with h having f fixed by hinj: f := oddEmb is FIXED (from hinj's type). Then `?g (oddEmb x)` vs body — pattern unification: abstract oddEmb x occurrences → ?g := fun t => body[t] ✓. Why not found? Maybe because hinj's f is a metavariable until unified: hinj : ∀ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ∀ y ∈ Icc 1 K, oddEmb x = oddEmb y → x = y — matches the hypothesis form with f := oddEmb ✓ fixed. Then the RHS of sum_image: `∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?g (oddEmb x)`. The goal sum is over `Finset.Icc 1 K` ✓. Hmm, the error message shows the pattern it searched: `∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?m.530 (oddEmb x)` — exactly. And the target contains `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ↑↑(oddEmb k)) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑(oddEmb k))`. Unify `?m (oddEmb x)` with `(1 - 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑(oddEmb k)`: the term `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — double coercion (↑(↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ) : ℝ) — as an application it's `Nat.cast (Subtype.val (oddEmb k))`. Pattern unification: ?m applied to `oddEmb x` must equal body containing `Nat.cast (Subtype.val (oddEmb k))` — this is fine for pattern unification ONLY IF `oddEmb k` appears as a subterm — it does. ?m := fun t => (1 − 1/↑↑t)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑t ✓ valid pattern solution. Why failed? Possibly because `Finset.sum` binds with `fun k => ...` and rw's kabstract works on the whole sum instance first: `∑ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ?g (oddEmb x)` — the summand lambda is `fun k => body k`; unify `fun x => ?g (oddEmb x)` =?= `fun k => body(oddEmb k)` — under binder: ?g (oddEmb x) =?= body — pattern ✓. Hmm.
Wait — maybe the issue: after `rw [hconv]`, the goal is exactly what the error shows. And rw [← Finset.sum_image hinj] — Finset.sum_image's statement: `∑ x ∈ s.image f, g x = ∑ x ∈ s, g (f x)` — note the LHS is over `s.image f`. rw [←] replaces RHS-shape with LHS-shape. Pattern `∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?m (oddEmb x)` — hmm the error says pattern not found. Odd. Unless... `Finset.sum_image` has implicit {g} that appears only inside; fine. OR: the actual name in current Mathlib is `Finset.sum_image` with hypothesis `∀ x ∈ s, ∀ y ∈ s, f x = f y → x = y` ✓ exists.
Hmm, maybe the problem: in hconv's RHS I wrote `(oddEmb k : ℕ)` — the coercion (↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ) — is that `Subtype.val`? There's no CoeTail subtype→ℕ registered?? Then how did it elaborate... `(oddEmb k : ℕ)` — Lean coerces via `instCoeSubtype`?? Hmm, in Lean4/Mathlib, coercion from {x // p x} to α: there IS a CoeTail instance `instCoeTailSubtypeVal`? I think subtype→parent coercion exists. The error display shows `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — double up-arrow: outer ℕ→ℝ, inner subtype→ℕ ✓ so it elaborated.
So why no match... Maybe because rw uses `kabstract` which does NOT do second-order pattern unification for the bound-function — it abstracts occurrences of the *instantiated* RHS after unifying metavars by matching LHS ↔ ... no wait, rw [← h]: h : LHS = RHS; rw [← h] finds instances of RHS in goal. RHS = `∑ x ∈ s, g (f x)` with f, g, s metavars — but f gets assigned from hinj. s assigned from hinj too (Icc 1 K). g is a free metavar appearing in RHS under the binder applied to (f x) — kabstract finds subterms matching `∑ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ?g (oddEmb x)` — matching (not unification): the goal's summand `fun k => body` must be syntactically `fun x => ?g (oddEmb x)` for some ?g — matching assigns ?g via pattern unification ✓ normally works...
Hmm, maybe the issue is that `Finset.sum_image`'s g is implicit and appears in BOTH sides; and the sum notation `∑ x ∈ s, h x` is `Finset.sum s (fun x => h x)` — matching `Finset.sum (Icc 1 K) (fun x => ?g (oddEmb x))` against `Finset.sum (Icc 1 K) (fun k => body k)`: needs `fun x => ?g (oddEmb x)` ≟ `fun k => body k`: eta/pattern: ?g (oddEmb k) ≟ body k ✓ pattern solvable.
Unless the body in the goal is NOT literally `fun k => body(oddEmb k)` — from the error print: `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ↑↑(oddEmb k)) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑(oddEmb k))` — pretty-print could hide a different bound structure... The hconv RHS was `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ))` ✓ literally a function of oddEmb k.
OH WAIT. I see it — `rw [hconv, ← Finset.sum_image hinj]`: rw [hconv] FIRST rewrites — but hconv's LHS pattern is the step-2 body sum with ↑(2k+1) casts, which appears in the goal... after rw [hconv] the goal is hconv's RHS ≤ tsum ✓ (error message confirms). Then rw [← sum_image]: fails to find. Hmm — could the issue be that `?g (oddEmb x)` vs body: the body contains `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — the coercion `↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ` is NOT `Subtype.val (oddEmb k)` but `instCoe... (oddEmb k)` — some instance application. Pattern unification: ?g (oddEmb k) must produce a term containing `instCoe(oddEmb k)` — fine, ?g := fun t => (1 − 1/↑(instCoe t))^n... — that's a valid assignment (pattern unification allows arbitrary subterms containing the bound var's argument? NO — pattern unification for ?g (oddEmb x): ?g must be a function such that applied to (oddEmb x) gives the body; the body contains the ARGUMENT (oddEmb x) as subterm — solutions exist: ?g := fun t => body[t] ✓. Unless `oddEmb k` doesn't appear ATOMICALLY — e.g., if the coercion instance reduces/inlines...
You know what, rather than fighting this: sidestep with an explicit g. Do it in two steps:
```lean
rw [hconv]
have hsi := Finset.sum_image (s := Finset.Icc 1 K) (f := oddEmb)
(g := fun m : {m : ℕ // Odd m ∧ 3 ≤ m} =>
(1 - 1 / ((m : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((m : ℕ) : ℝ)) hinj
rw [← hsi]
exact Summable.sum_le_tsum _ ...
```
With g explicit, hsi : ∑ x ∈ image, g x = ∑ k ∈ Icc 1 K, g (oddEmb k); g (oddEmb k) = body with ((↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ):ℝ) — must match goal's summand syntactically — it should: goal's summand IS that body (from hconv's RHS — same expression I wrote). ✓ Then Summable.sum_le_tsum's f := g — goal's tsum: `∑' m : subtype, ((1 - 1/(m:ℝ))^n − 1 + ↑n/(m:ℝ))` vs `∑' i, g i` with g using ((m:ℕ):ℝ) — the defeq coercion bridge at `exact` — first-order, hopefully OK. If not, restate sInf_partial_lower's tsum using ((m:ℕ):ℝ) — but the SInfty body uses (m:ℝ)... The main theorem will need one bridge anyway.
Alternatively define the whole chain with SInfty-body-style casts and let bern applications do the defeq work (they're ground terms — `exact bern_term_lower n m.1 ...` unifying `(1−1/↑m.1)^n ...` with `(1−1/↑(m:ℝ))...`?? (m:ℝ) where m : subtype — hmm this elaborates how? If it elaborates to `Nat.cast (Subtype.val m)` — SAME as (↑m.1 : ℝ) syntactically! The coercion (m : ℝ) for m : subtype: Lean looks for Coe {m//P} ℝ — finds via CoeTail: {m//P} → ℕ → ℝ composed... the TERM produced might be a composition function application rather than directly Nat.cast (val m). In SInfty's def I wrote `(m : ℝ)` — its elaborated form is whatever it is; in bern statements `((m : ℝ))` with m : ℕ is `Nat.cast m`. The error prints show `↑↑m` / `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — double coe — consistent with Nat.cast (val m). And the tsum in SInfty body: error prints show `↑↑m` too (from the sInf_partial_lower goal print: `(1 - 1 / ↑↑m) ^ n` ✓). So (m : ℝ) for m : subtype elaborates to ↑↑m = Nat.cast (val m) — SYNTACTICALLY the same as bern's (↑m.1 : ℝ)?? Then why did bern_term_lower exact fail at line 234... that error was different: ↑(2*k+1) vs (2*↑k+1) — the mixed-arithmetic cast issue, real. OK.
So plan for the sum_image step: explicit (g := ...) with body written `((m : ℕ) : ℝ)` and hope tsum unification works. Let me also fix bern_term_lower (pow_nonneg route), Nat.card_Icc, and the cast massage in step 2.
For step 2: keep body with ((2*k+1 : ℕ):ℝ) and massage bern:
```lean
intro k hk
have h := bern_term_lower n (2 * k + 1) (by omega)
have hc : ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 := by push_cast; ring
rwa [hc] at h
```
Wait the goal (from calc step1 RHS) is `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ (1 − 1/↑(2k+1))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑(2k+1)`?? No — step 2's body I define; the subgoal from Finset.sum_le_sum is `(step1 summand) k ≤ (step2 summand) k` = `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ (1 − 1/↑(2*k+1))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑(2*k+1)` — mixed. bern gives `↑n/↑(2k+1) − 1 ≤ body(↑(2k+1))`. rw [hc] at h turns h into `↑n/(2↑k+1) − 1 ≤ body(2↑k+1)`. Goal has body(↑(2k+1)) on RHS — mismatch with body(2↑k+1) — DEFEQ but exact might fail again like line 234 did... Line 234's failure: h : ↑(2k+1)-form, goal: (2↑k+1)-form RHS but ↑(2k+1)-form LHS?? Re-read: "has type ↑n / ↑(2 * k + 1) − 1 ≤ ... ↑(2*k+1) ... but expected ↑n / (2 * ↑k + 1) − 1 ≤ ... ↑(2*k+1)..." — so goal LHS = (2↑k+1)-form, RHS = ↑(2k+1)-form (from my step-2 body). h fully ↑(2k+1)-form. exact failed on the LHS mismatch: ↑n/(2*↑k+1) vs ↑n/↑(2*k+1) — defeq but exact's unification failed?? That's surprising for default transparency... unless the `2 * ↑k + 1` is actually `OfNat.ofNat`-heavy normal forms that need semiring normalization (not defeq!). `2 * ↑k + 1` vs `↑(2*k+1)`: ↑(2*k+1) unfolds Nat.cast: it's a coercion of the nat literal-expression; defeq to 2*↑k+1 requires unfolding Nat.cast and computing — `Nat.cast (2*k+1)` — Nat.cast is `NatCast.natCast` → `instNatCast` → recursive definition — defeq holds (cast_succ lemmas are proved by rfl sometimes...) but maybe not at default transparency — actually `Nat.cast_add`/etc are theorems, not definitional. `Nat.cast (2*k+1)` vs `2 * Nat.cast k + 1`: definitional? Nat.cast on ℕ→ℝ goes through binary recursion — `Nat.cast (a+b)` is NOT definitionally `Nat.cast a + Nat.cast b` in general. So exact failed rightly. The rw [hc] approach handles it via the proved cast lemma ✓. But then goal RHS ↑(2k+1) vs h's rewritten (2↑k+1) — same issue in reverse! So ALSO rewrite the goal's step-2 body to (2↑k+1)-form: write step-2 summand as `(1 - 1 / (2 * (k:ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / (2 * (k:ℝ) + 1)` — then everything is (2↑k+1)-form ✓. And hconv/sum_image bodies correspondingly: hconv LHS summand (2↑k+1)-form, RHS ((m:ℕ):ℝ)-form... the oddEmb k with dif_pos gives ⟨2*k+1, ...⟩ whose val is 2*k+1 : ℕ, cast ↑(2*k+1) — need it to equal (2↑k+1)-form for hconv's sum_congr... ugh. In hconv sum_congr subproof: goal `(2↑k+1)-body = (↑(oddEmb k))-body`; after simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]: RHS body has ↑(⟨2*k+1,...⟩.val)... need: reduce projection (dsimp) → ↑(2*k+1)-form; then hc-rewrite: since it's an equation between ℝ bodies: rw [show ((2*k+1:ℕ):ℝ) = 2*(k:ℝ)+1 by push_cast;ring] — rewriting INSIDE the RHS: rw [hc] rewrites occurrences of ↑(2*k+1) — but which side... goal: LHS(2↑k+1) = RHS(↑(2k+1)): rw [hc] changes ↑(2k+1) → 2↑k+1 making both sides identical → closed by rfl ✓. So hconv subproof: simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]; then need projection reduction: does `simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]` leave `(⟨2*k+1, _, _⟩ : subtype)` coerced: ↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩ — simp should apply `Subtype.coe_mk`-like... not sure it exists as simp. Add `Subtype.val` unfolding: hmm. There IS a dsimp rule: `Subtype.coe_mk`? Let me include in the simp set: `simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1, Subtype.coe_mk]`? Not a lemma. Alternatively after dif_pos, term is `if_pos` reduced application — the coercion `(⟨2*k+1, _, _⟩ : {m // ...} → ℕ)` = `Subtype.val (Subtype.mk ...)` reduces definitionally via iota. `dsimp only` does iota ✓. So: `simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]; dsimp only; rw [hc]`? Or finish with `rfl` if reducible at default... Plan:
```lean
intro k hk
have hk1 : 1 ≤ k := (Finset.mem_Icc.mp hk).1
simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]
rw [show ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 by push_cast; ring]
```
But if the projection didn't reduce, the `↑(2*k+1)` pattern isn't there... Let me make it robust: after simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1], the goal should be `body(2↑k+1 LHS) = body'(↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩)`. Try `rfl`?? The coercion ↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩ is defeq to ↑(2*k+1) (iota) but not syntactic; `rfl` (Eq.refl) checks defeq at default — should CLOSE: body'(↑↑⟨...⟩) ≡ body'(↑(2*k+1)) by iota on val; and ↑(2*k+1) vs (2↑k+1) NOT defeq — argh, still the cast-arithmetic mismatch.
Cleanest: avoid mixed forms ENTIRELY by changing oddHarm's def to use ((2*k+1 : ℕ):ℝ)?? oddHarm is used in oddHarm_eq (proved, works) — changing it breaks that proof. Alternatively in step 1, after unfold oddHarm, rewrite the summand: the summand from oddHarm is `1/(2*↑k+1)`; my step-1 RHS `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1` — the (2↑k+1)-form is baked in from oddHarm. So everything downstream must use (2↑k+1)-form — including the oddEmb value: define oddEmb with value 2*k+1 (ℕ) — unavoidable cast issue at the val projection: ↑(2*k+1) vs 2↑k+1.
OK final answer for hconv:
```lean
have hconv : ∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K,
((1 - 1 / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) =
∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K,
((1 - 1 / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ)) := by
apply Finset.sum_congr rfl
intro k hk
have hk1 : 1 ≤ k := (Finset.mem_Icc.mp hk).1
have hc : ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 := by push_cast; ring
simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]
-- goal now: body(2*↑k+1) = body(↑↑⟨2*k+1, _, _⟩)
-- reduce the val projection and rewrite the cast
show ((1 - 1 / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) =
(1 - 1 / ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ)
rw [hc]
```
The `show` demands defeq: ↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩ ≡ ↑(2*k+1) — iota-reducible ✓ should pass. Then rw [hc] makes both sides syntactically equal → closed ✓.
And step 2's bern subgoal: `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ body(2*↑k+1)`:
```lean
intro k hk
have h := bern_term_lower n (2 * k + 1) (by omega)
have hc : ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 := by push_cast; ring
rwa [hc] at h
```
h becomes (2↑k+1)-form ✓ exact match.
Then the sum_image g: `fun m : subtype => (1 - 1/((m:ℕ):ℝ))^n − 1 + ↑n/((m:ℕ):ℝ)` — hsi rw [←]: goal after rw [hconv]: `∑ k ∈ Icc 1 K, ((1 − 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑(oddEmb k)) ≤ tsum-body` — hsi's RHS: `∑ k ∈ Icc 1 K, g (oddEmb k)` where g m = (1 − 1/↑↑m)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑m — g (oddEmb k) = (1 − 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n − ... ✓ SYNTACTIC match ✓ rw [← hsi] works deterministically with explicit g.
Then final: goal `∑ x ∈ image oddEmb, g x ≤ ∑' m : subtype, ((1 − 1/(m:ℝ))^n − 1 + ↑n/(m:ℝ))`; apply Summable.sum_le_tsum: its conclusion `∑ i ∈ s, f i ≤ ∑' i, f i`: unify f := g for the sum ✓; the tsum: `∑' i, g i` vs goal's `∑' m, body((m:ℝ))`: (m:ℝ) for m : subtype — from the error print, SInfty's body prints as `↑↑m` — and g's is ↑↑m too — wait g uses ((m : ℕ) : ℝ) printing as ↑↑m ✓ SAME? The print of the goal tsum in the error: `∑' (m : { m // Odd m ∧ 3 ≤ m }), ((1 - 1 / ↑↑m) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑m)` ✓ — so (m : ℝ) DID elaborate to ↑↑m (Nat.cast (val m)) — syntactically identical to g's ((m:ℕ):ℝ)? If ((m:ℕ):ℝ) elaborates to the same ↑↑m ✓ then exact unifies syntactically.
Also fix bern_term_lower with the pow_nonneg route. Actually — hmm, bern_term_lower's statement (n/m − 1 ≤ h⁺(m)) — with pow_nonneg alone: h⁺(m) − (n/m − 1) = (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0 ✓ — no Bernoulli needed. Simpler proof:
```lean
theorem bern_term_lower (n : ℕ) (m : ℕ) (hm : 1 ≤ m) :
(n : ℝ) / m - 1 ≤ (1 - 1 / (m : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / m := by
And `Nat.card_Icc` fix in step 1: `simp [Finset.sum_const, Nat.card_Icc, nsmul_eq_mul]`.
Clear diagnostics. Fixing: (1) `bern_term_lower` — the bound follows from `pow_nonneg` alone; (2) `Nat.card_Icc` name; (3) cast-form mismatches (`↑(2k+1)` vs `2↑k+1`) via explicit rewrites; (4) explicit `g` for `Finset.sum_image`.
[{"type":"thinking","thinking":"Good diagnostics. Errors:\n\n1. **Line 206 (bern_term_lower)**: linarith failed — goal after h2: `↑n/↑m − 1 ≤ (1−1/↑m)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑m`. From h2: 1 − n/m ≤ (1−1/m)^n. linarith should do: (1−1/m)^n ≥ 1 − n/m ⟹ (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m ≥ −n/m + n/m... wait: goal LHS n/m − 1, RHS (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m: RHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m − n/m + 1 = (1−1/m)^n ≥ ... hmm no: RHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0? Not quite: RHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m − (n/m − 1) = (1−1/m)^n. So need (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0! I conflated with bern_term_nonneg's goal (0 ≤ RHS). The countermodel shows a✝ : RHS < n/m − 1 i.e. (1−1/m)^n < 0. Need nonneg of the power: have h3 : 0 ≤ (1 − 1/(m:ℝ))^n := pow_nonneg (by ...) n. Wait but h2 alone insufficient: from h2: (1−1/m)^n ≥ 1 − n/m; RHS = (1−1/m)^n − 1 + n/m ≥ (1−n/m) − 1 + n/m = 0 — that gives 0 ≤ RHS i.e. RHS ≥ 0, but goal is RHS ≥ n/m − 1. n/m − 1 ≤ 0? No! n/m can exceed 1. Hmm: RHS − (n/m − 1) = (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0 ✓ so need pow_nonneg. Add: have h3 : (0:ℝ) ≤ (1 − 1/(m:ℝ))^n := pow_nonneg (by ... ) n; linarith [h3]. The (1 − 1/m) ≥ 0: 1/m ≤ 1 ✓. Actually simpler: drop h2 entirely; use pow_nonneg only:\n```lean\n have hpos : (0:ℝ) ≤ 1 - 1/(m:ℝ) := by\n have h4 : (1:ℝ)/m ≤ 1 := by rw [div_le_one (by positivity)]; exact hm1\n linarith\n have h3 : (0:ℝ) ≤ (1 - 1/(m:ℝ))^n := pow_nonneg hpos n\n linarith\n```\nRHS − LHS = (1−1/m)^n ✓ linarith closes. Drop the Bernoulli part (not needed!). Funny — the lower bound n/m − 1 ≤ h⁺(m) is actually trivial from (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0 alone. And bern_term_nonneg (0 ≤ h⁺) DOES need Bernoulli (for m < n). OK.\n\n2. **Finset.card_Icc unknown**: the name is `Nat.card_Icc`? In Mathlib: `Nat.card_Icc : (Finset.Icc a b).card = b + 1 - a` ✓ it's in Nat namespace. Fix: `Nat.card_Icc`.\n\n3. **bern_term_lower type mismatch**: the goal sum uses `(2 * ↑k + 1 : ℝ)` (from oddHarm's body `(1:ℝ)/(2*k+1)` — k cast to ℝ then arithmetic) while bern_term_lower n (2*k+1) gives casts `↑(2*k+1)`. Defeq but `exact` failed?? It says \"has type ↑n/↑(2*k+1) − 1 ≤ ... but expected ↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ ...\" — defeq via push_cast but exact's defeq check should handle... it didn't (maybe reducibility). Fix: transform: `have h := bern_term_lower n (2*k+1) (by omega); have hc : ((2*k+1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2*(k:ℝ)+1 := by push_cast; ring; rwa [hc] at h`. But wait — the sum's function: in the second calc step I wrote the body with `((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ)` casts — but the error shows the goal has `↑n / (2 * ↑k + 1)` — meaning the FIRST calc step's RHS `∑ k, (↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1)` uses 2*↑k+1 (from oddHarm's `(1:ℝ)/(2*k+1)` where k coerced to ℝ: (2*↑k+1) — hmm in oddHarm def I wrote `(1 : ℝ) / (2 * k + 1)` with k : ℕ — elaborates to 1/(2*↑k + 1)? (2*k+1 : ℝ) with k cast — yes mixed arithmetic casts k only). So after calc step 1, the comparison happens between `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1` (ℝ-arith) and my step-2 body with `↑(2*k+1)` — the Finset.sum_le_sum subgoal is `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ body(↑(2*k+1))`. Fix: in step 2's body, use `(2 * (k:ℝ) + 1 : ℝ)` form instead of `((2*k+1 : ℕ):ℝ)`:\n`(1 - 1 / (2 * (k:ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n:ℝ)/(2*(k:ℝ)+1)`. Then bern_term_lower application needs cast massage: have h := bern_term_lower n (2*k+1) (by omega); rw [show ((2*k+1:ℕ):ℝ) = 2*(k:ℝ)+1 by push_cast; ring] at h; exact h. And hconv accordingly. Alternatively make step-1 produce ↑(2k+1) form: change mul_one_div rewrite... the 2*↑k+1 comes from oddHarm's def; simplest to adapt step 2.\n\nHmm wait, actually bern_term_lower's conclusion also has `↑n/↑(2k+1) − 1` — but the goal's LHS is `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1`: defeq. `exact` uses isDefEq at default transparency — should have worked... unless the (m : ℝ) subtype coercion in SInfty's body confuses... no, this error is purely ℕ→ℝ. It says type mismatch — sometimes exact with defeq still fails on pow/casts? Let me just do the rw-based massage.\n\n4. **rw [← Finset.sum_image hinj] failed**: pattern `∑ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ?f (oddEmb x)` not found — because the goal's sum has body `(1 − 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n ...` where the summand is `fun k => body(oddEmb k)` — for the rw to match, unification must see the body as `?f (oddEmb x)` — higher-order pattern: ?f := fun m => (1 − 1/↑↑m)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑m — should unify by pattern unification (body is literally an application of a function of oddEmb k... the body mentions oddEmb k multiple times: pattern unification abstracts all occurrences ✓ should work). Why did it fail? Because `Finset.sum_image hinj` equation: `∑ x ∈ s.image f, g x = ∑ x ∈ s, g (f x)` — with f := oddEmb, g := ?m. rw [← ...] rewrites instances of RHS pattern `∑ x ∈ ?s, ?g (oddEmb x)` → LHS. The error \"did not find occurrence of pattern ∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?m (oddEmb x)\" — but goal HAS that shape... unless the summand function isn't syntactically `fun k => body(oddEmb k)`? The goal shows `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ↑↑(oddEmb k)) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑(oddEmb k))` — it IS that shape. Hmm — but `?m` must be a function of the subtype element; pattern unification needs `?m (oddEmb x)` where x is the bound var — the body contains `oddEmb k` with k the bound variable ✓. Should match... unless hinj's shape differs: Finset.sum_image (h : ∀ x ∈ s, ∀ y ∈ s, f x = f y → x = y) — my hinj matches with s := Icc 1 K, f := oddEmb ✓. The rewrite's LHS has metavariables f, g, s; rewriting backwards: find `∑ x ∈ ?s, ?g (?f x)` — second-order; Lean uses keyed matching: key is `Finset.sum` — then it tries to unify summand `?g (?f x)` with `body(oddEmb k)`: higher-order unification problem with TWO metavariables — ambiguous, and Lean's pattern inference for rw [← h] with h having f fixed by hinj: f := oddEmb is FIXED (from hinj's type). Then `?g (oddEmb x)` vs body — pattern unification: abstract oddEmb x occurrences → ?g := fun t => body[t] ✓. Why not found? Maybe because hinj's f is a metavariable until unified: hinj : ∀ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ∀ y ∈ Icc 1 K, oddEmb x = oddEmb y → x = y — matches the hypothesis form with f := oddEmb ✓ fixed. Then the RHS of sum_image: `∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?g (oddEmb x)`. The goal sum is over `Finset.Icc 1 K` ✓. Hmm, the error message shows the pattern it searched: `∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?m.530 (oddEmb x)` — exactly. And the target contains `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ↑↑(oddEmb k)) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑(oddEmb k))`. Unify `?m (oddEmb x)` with `(1 - 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑(oddEmb k)`: the term `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — double coercion (↑(↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ) : ℝ) — as an application it's `Nat.cast (Subtype.val (oddEmb k))`. Pattern unification: ?m applied to `oddEmb x` must equal body containing `Nat.cast (Subtype.val (oddEmb k))` — this is fine for pattern unification ONLY IF `oddEmb k` appears as a subterm — it does. ?m := fun t => (1 − 1/↑↑t)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑t ✓ valid pattern solution. Why failed? Possibly because `Finset.sum` binds with `fun k => ...` and rw's kabstract works on the whole sum instance first: `∑ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ?g (oddEmb x)` — the summand lambda is `fun k => body k`; unify `fun x => ?g (oddEmb x)` =?= `fun k => body(oddEmb k)` — under binder: ?g (oddEmb x) =?= body — pattern ✓. Hmm.\n\nWait — maybe the issue: after `rw [hconv]`, the goal is exactly what the error shows. And rw [← Finset.sum_image hinj] — Finset.sum_image's statement: `∑ x ∈ s.image f, g x = ∑ x ∈ s, g (f x)` — note the LHS is over `s.image f`. rw [←] replaces RHS-shape with LHS-shape. Pattern `∑ x ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ?m (oddEmb x)` — hmm the error says pattern not found. Odd. Unless... `Finset.sum_image` has implicit {g} that appears only inside; fine. OR: the actual name in current Mathlib is `Finset.sum_image` with hypothesis `∀ x ∈ s, ∀ y ∈ s, f x = f y → x = y` ✓ exists.\n\nHmm, maybe the problem: in hconv's RHS I wrote `(oddEmb k : ℕ)` — the coercion (↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ) — is that `Subtype.val`? There's no CoeTail subtype→ℕ registered?? Then how did it elaborate... `(oddEmb k : ℕ)` — Lean coerces via `instCoeSubtype`?? Hmm, in Lean4/Mathlib, coercion from {x // p x} to α: there IS a CoeTail instance `instCoeTailSubtypeVal`? I think subtype→parent coercion exists. The error display shows `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — double up-arrow: outer ℕ→ℝ, inner subtype→ℕ ✓ so it elaborated.\n\nSo why no match... Maybe because rw uses `kabstract` which does NOT do second-order pattern unification for the bound-function — it abstracts occurrences of the *instantiated* RHS after unifying metavars by matching LHS ↔ ... no wait, rw [← h]: h : LHS = RHS; rw [← h] finds instances of RHS in goal. RHS = `∑ x ∈ s, g (f x)` with f, g, s metavars — but f gets assigned from hinj. s assigned from hinj too (Icc 1 K). g is a free metavar appearing in RHS under the binder applied to (f x) — kabstract finds subterms matching `∑ x ∈ Icc 1 K, ?g (oddEmb x)` — matching (not unification): the goal's summand `fun k => body` must be syntactically `fun x => ?g (oddEmb x)` for some ?g — matching assigns ?g via pattern unification ✓ normally works...\n\nHmm, maybe the issue is that `Finset.sum_image`'s g is implicit and appears in BOTH sides; and the sum notation `∑ x ∈ s, h x` is `Finset.sum s (fun x => h x)` — matching `Finset.sum (Icc 1 K) (fun x => ?g (oddEmb x))` against `Finset.sum (Icc 1 K) (fun k => body k)`: needs `fun x => ?g (oddEmb x)` ≟ `fun k => body k`: eta/pattern: ?g (oddEmb k) ≟ body k ✓ pattern solvable.\n\nUnless the body in the goal is NOT literally `fun k => body(oddEmb k)` — from the error print: `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ↑↑(oddEmb k)) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑(oddEmb k))` — pretty-print could hide a different bound structure... The hconv RHS was `∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K, ((1 - 1 / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ))` ✓ literally a function of oddEmb k. \n\nOH WAIT. I see it — `rw [hconv, ← Finset.sum_image hinj]`: rw [hconv] FIRST rewrites — but hconv's LHS pattern is the step-2 body sum with ↑(2k+1) casts, which appears in the goal... after rw [hconv] the goal is hconv's RHS ≤ tsum ✓ (error message confirms). Then rw [← sum_image]: fails to find. Hmm — could the issue be that `?g (oddEmb x)` vs body: the body contains `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — the coercion `↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ` is NOT `Subtype.val (oddEmb k)` but `instCoe... (oddEmb k)` — some instance application. Pattern unification: ?g (oddEmb k) must produce a term containing `instCoe(oddEmb k)` — fine, ?g := fun t => (1 − 1/↑(instCoe t))^n... — that's a valid assignment (pattern unification allows arbitrary subterms containing the bound var's argument? NO — pattern unification for ?g (oddEmb x): ?g must be a function such that applied to (oddEmb x) gives the body; the body contains the ARGUMENT (oddEmb x) as subterm — solutions exist: ?g := fun t => body[t] ✓. Unless `oddEmb k` doesn't appear ATOMICALLY — e.g., if the coercion instance reduces/inlines... \n\nYou know what, rather than fighting this: sidestep with an explicit g. Do it in two steps:\n```lean\n rw [hconv]\n have hsi := Finset.sum_image (s := Finset.Icc 1 K) (f := oddEmb)\n (g := fun m : {m : ℕ // Odd m ∧ 3 ≤ m} =>\n (1 - 1 / ((m : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((m : ℕ) : ℝ)) hinj\n rw [← hsi]\n exact Summable.sum_le_tsum _ ...\n```\nWith g explicit, hsi : ∑ x ∈ image, g x = ∑ k ∈ Icc 1 K, g (oddEmb k); g (oddEmb k) = body with ((↑(oddEmb k) : ℕ):ℝ) — must match goal's summand syntactically — it should: goal's summand IS that body (from hconv's RHS — same expression I wrote). ✓ Then Summable.sum_le_tsum's f := g — goal's tsum: `∑' m : subtype, ((1 - 1/(m:ℝ))^n − 1 + ↑n/(m:ℝ))` vs `∑' i, g i` with g using ((m:ℕ):ℝ) — the defeq coercion bridge at `exact` — first-order, hopefully OK. If not, restate sInf_partial_lower's tsum using ((m:ℕ):ℝ) — but the SInfty body uses (m:ℝ)... The main theorem will need one bridge anyway.\n\nAlternatively define the whole chain with SInfty-body-style casts and let bern applications do the defeq work (they're ground terms — `exact bern_term_lower n m.1 ...` unifying `(1−1/↑m.1)^n ...` with `(1−1/↑(m:ℝ))...`?? (m:ℝ) where m : subtype — hmm this elaborates how? If it elaborates to `Nat.cast (Subtype.val m)` — SAME as (↑m.1 : ℝ) syntactically! The coercion (m : ℝ) for m : subtype: Lean looks for Coe {m//P} ℝ — finds via CoeTail: {m//P} → ℕ → ℝ composed... the TERM produced might be a composition function application rather than directly Nat.cast (val m). In SInfty's def I wrote `(m : ℝ)` — its elaborated form is whatever it is; in bern statements `((m : ℝ))` with m : ℕ is `Nat.cast m`. The error prints show `↑↑m` / `↑↑(oddEmb k)` — double coe — consistent with Nat.cast (val m). And the tsum in SInfty body: error prints show `↑↑m` too (from the sInf_partial_lower goal print: `(1 - 1 / ↑↑m) ^ n` ✓). So (m : ℝ) for m : subtype elaborates to ↑↑m = Nat.cast (val m) — SYNTACTICALLY the same as bern's (↑m.1 : ℝ)?? Then why did bern_term_lower exact fail at line 234... that error was different: ↑(2*k+1) vs (2*↑k+1) — the mixed-arithmetic cast issue, real. OK.\n\nSo plan for the sum_image step: explicit (g := ...) with body written `((m : ℕ) : ℝ)` and hope tsum unification works. Let me also fix bern_term_lower (pow_nonneg route), Nat.card_Icc, and the cast massage in step 2.\n\nFor step 2: keep body with ((2*k+1 : ℕ):ℝ) and massage bern:\n```lean\n intro k hk\n have h := bern_term_lower n (2 * k + 1) (by omega)\n have hc : ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 := by push_cast; ring\n rwa [hc] at h\n```\nWait the goal (from calc step1 RHS) is `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ (1 − 1/↑(2k+1))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑(2k+1)`?? No — step 2's body I define; the subgoal from Finset.sum_le_sum is `(step1 summand) k ≤ (step2 summand) k` = `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ (1 − 1/↑(2*k+1))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑(2*k+1)` — mixed. bern gives `↑n/↑(2k+1) − 1 ≤ body(↑(2k+1))`. rw [hc] at h turns h into `↑n/(2↑k+1) − 1 ≤ body(2↑k+1)`. Goal has body(↑(2k+1)) on RHS — mismatch with body(2↑k+1) — DEFEQ but exact might fail again like line 234 did... Line 234's failure: h : ↑(2k+1)-form, goal: (2↑k+1)-form RHS but ↑(2k+1)-form LHS?? Re-read: \"has type ↑n / ↑(2 * k + 1) − 1 ≤ ... ↑(2*k+1) ... but expected ↑n / (2 * ↑k + 1) − 1 ≤ ... ↑(2*k+1)...\" — so goal LHS = (2↑k+1)-form, RHS = ↑(2k+1)-form (from my step-2 body). h fully ↑(2k+1)-form. exact failed on the LHS mismatch: ↑n/(2*↑k+1) vs ↑n/↑(2*k+1) — defeq but exact's unification failed?? That's surprising for default transparency... unless the `2 * ↑k + 1` is actually `OfNat.ofNat`-heavy normal forms that need semiring normalization (not defeq!). `2 * ↑k + 1` vs `↑(2*k+1)`: ↑(2*k+1) unfolds Nat.cast: it's a coercion of the nat literal-expression; defeq to 2*↑k+1 requires unfolding Nat.cast and computing — `Nat.cast (2*k+1)` — Nat.cast is `NatCast.natCast` → `instNatCast` → recursive definition — defeq holds (cast_succ lemmas are proved by rfl sometimes...) but maybe not at default transparency — actually `Nat.cast_add`/etc are theorems, not definitional. `Nat.cast (2*k+1)` vs `2 * Nat.cast k + 1`: definitional? Nat.cast on ℕ→ℝ goes through binary recursion — `Nat.cast (a+b)` is NOT definitionally `Nat.cast a + Nat.cast b` in general. So exact failed rightly. The rw [hc] approach handles it via the proved cast lemma ✓. But then goal RHS ↑(2k+1) vs h's rewritten (2↑k+1) — same issue in reverse! So ALSO rewrite the goal's step-2 body to (2↑k+1)-form: write step-2 summand as `(1 - 1 / (2 * (k:ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / (2 * (k:ℝ) + 1)` — then everything is (2↑k+1)-form ✓. And hconv/sum_image bodies correspondingly: hconv LHS summand (2↑k+1)-form, RHS ((m:ℕ):ℝ)-form... the oddEmb k with dif_pos gives ⟨2*k+1, ...⟩ whose val is 2*k+1 : ℕ, cast ↑(2*k+1) — need it to equal (2↑k+1)-form for hconv's sum_congr... ugh. In hconv sum_congr subproof: goal `(2↑k+1)-body = (↑(oddEmb k))-body`; after simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]: RHS body has ↑(⟨2*k+1,...⟩.val)... need: reduce projection (dsimp) → ↑(2*k+1)-form; then hc-rewrite: since it's an equation between ℝ bodies: rw [show ((2*k+1:ℕ):ℝ) = 2*(k:ℝ)+1 by push_cast;ring] — rewriting INSIDE the RHS: rw [hc] rewrites occurrences of ↑(2*k+1) — but which side... goal: LHS(2↑k+1) = RHS(↑(2k+1)): rw [hc] changes ↑(2k+1) → 2↑k+1 making both sides identical → closed by rfl ✓. So hconv subproof: simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]; then need projection reduction: does `simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]` leave `(⟨2*k+1, _, _⟩ : subtype)` coerced: ↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩ — simp should apply `Subtype.coe_mk`-like... not sure it exists as simp. Add `Subtype.val` unfolding: hmm. There IS a dsimp rule: `Subtype.coe_mk`? Let me include in the simp set: `simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1, Subtype.coe_mk]`? Not a lemma. Alternatively after dif_pos, term is `if_pos` reduced application — the coercion `(⟨2*k+1, _, _⟩ : {m // ...} → ℕ)` = `Subtype.val (Subtype.mk ...)` reduces definitionally via iota. `dsimp only` does iota ✓. So: `simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]; dsimp only; rw [hc]`? Or finish with `rfl` if reducible at default... Plan: \n```lean\n intro k hk\n have hk1 : 1 ≤ k := (Finset.mem_Icc.mp hk).1\n simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]\n rw [show ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 by push_cast; ring]\n```\nBut if the projection didn't reduce, the `↑(2*k+1)` pattern isn't there... Let me make it robust: after simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1], the goal should be `body(2↑k+1 LHS) = body'(↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩)`. Try `rfl`?? The coercion ↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩ is defeq to ↑(2*k+1) (iota) but not syntactic; `rfl` (Eq.refl) checks defeq at default — should CLOSE: body'(↑↑⟨...⟩) ≡ body'(↑(2*k+1)) by iota on val; and ↑(2*k+1) vs (2↑k+1) NOT defeq — argh, still the cast-arithmetic mismatch.\n\nCleanest: avoid mixed forms ENTIRELY by changing oddHarm's def to use ((2*k+1 : ℕ):ℝ)?? oddHarm is used in oddHarm_eq (proved, works) — changing it breaks that proof. Alternatively in step 1, after unfold oddHarm, rewrite the summand: the summand from oddHarm is `1/(2*↑k+1)`; my step-1 RHS `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1` — the (2↑k+1)-form is baked in from oddHarm. So everything downstream must use (2↑k+1)-form — including the oddEmb value: define oddEmb with value 2*k+1 (ℕ) — unavoidable cast issue at the val projection: ↑(2*k+1) vs 2↑k+1.\n\nOK final answer for hconv: \n```lean\n have hconv : ∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K,\n ((1 - 1 / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) =\n ∑ k ∈ Finset.Icc 1 K,\n ((1 - 1 / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((oddEmb k : ℕ) : ℝ)) := by\n apply Finset.sum_congr rfl\n intro k hk\n have hk1 : 1 ≤ k := (Finset.mem_Icc.mp hk).1\n have hc : ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 := by push_cast; ring\n simp only [oddEmb, dif_pos hk1]\n -- goal now: body(2*↑k+1) = body(↑↑⟨2*k+1, _, _⟩)\n -- reduce the val projection and rewrite the cast\n show ((1 - 1 / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / (2 * (k : ℝ) + 1)) =\n (1 - 1 / ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ)\n rw [hc]\n```\nThe `show` demands defeq: ↑↑⟨2*k+1,...⟩ ≡ ↑(2*k+1) — iota-reducible ✓ should pass. Then rw [hc] makes both sides syntactically equal → closed ✓.\n\nAnd step 2's bern subgoal: `↑n/(2*↑k+1) − 1 ≤ body(2*↑k+1)`:\n```lean\n intro k hk\n have h := bern_term_lower n (2 * k + 1) (by omega)\n have hc : ((2 * k + 1 : ℕ) : ℝ) = 2 * (k : ℝ) + 1 := by push_cast; ring\n rwa [hc] at h\n```\nh becomes (2↑k+1)-form ✓ exact match.\n\nThen the sum_image g: `fun m : subtype => (1 - 1/((m:ℕ):ℝ))^n − 1 + ↑n/((m:ℕ):ℝ)` — hsi rw [←]: goal after rw [hconv]: `∑ k ∈ Icc 1 K, ((1 − 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑(oddEmb k)) ≤ tsum-body` — hsi's RHS: `∑ k ∈ Icc 1 K, g (oddEmb k)` where g m = (1 − 1/↑↑m)^n − 1 + ↑n/↑↑m — g (oddEmb k) = (1 − 1/↑↑(oddEmb k))^n − ... ✓ SYNTACTIC match ✓ rw [← hsi] works deterministically with explicit g.\n\nThen final: goal `∑ x ∈ image oddEmb, g x ≤ ∑' m : subtype, ((1 − 1/(m:ℝ))^n − 1 + ↑n/(m:ℝ))`; apply Summable.sum_le_tsum: its conclusion `∑ i ∈ s, f i ≤ ∑' i, f i`: unify f := g for the sum ✓; the tsum: `∑' i, g i` vs goal's `∑' m, body((m:ℝ))`: (m:ℝ) for m : subtype — from the error print, SInfty's body prints as `↑↑m` — and g's is ↑↑m too — wait g uses ((m : ℕ) : ℝ) printing as ↑↑m ✓ SAME? The print of the goal tsum in the error: `∑' (m : { m // Odd m ∧ 3 ≤ m }), ((1 - 1 / ↑↑m) ^ n - 1 + ↑n / ↑↑m)` ✓ — so (m : ℝ) DID elaborate to ↑↑m (Nat.cast (val m)) — syntactically identical to g's ((m:ℕ):ℝ)? If ((m:ℕ):ℝ) elaborates to the same ↑↑m ✓ then exact unifies syntactically. \n\nAlso fix bern_term_lower with the pow_nonneg route. Actually — hmm, bern_term_lower's statement (n/m − 1 ≤ h⁺(m)) — with pow_nonneg alone: h⁺(m) − (n/m − 1) = (1−1/m)^n ≥ 0 ✓ — no Bernoulli needed. Simpler proof:\n```lean\ntheorem bern_term_lower (n : ℕ) (m : ℕ) (hm : 1 ≤ m) :\n (n : ℝ) / m - 1 ≤ (1 - 1 / (m : ℝ)) ^ n - 1 + (n : ℝ) / m := by\n have hm1 : (1 : ℝ) ≤ m := by exact_mod_cast hm\n have h4 : (1 : ℝ) / m ≤ 1 := by rw [div_le_one (by positivity)]; exact hm1\n have hpos : (0 : ℝ) ≤ 1 - 1 / (m : ℝ) := by linarith\n have h3 : (0 : ℝ) ≤ (1 - 1 / (m : ℝ)) ^ n := pow_nonneg hpos n\n linarith\n```\n✓.\n\nAnd `Nat.card_Icc` fix in step 1: `simp [Finset.sum_const, Nat.card_Icc, nsmul_eq_mul]`.","signature":""},{"type":"text","text":"Clear diagnostics.
