Progress. New issues:
1. `Complex.conj` unknown constant! Interesting — in this Mathlib version, `conj` might not be in the Complex namespace as `Complex.conj`. From the earlier grep: `Mathlib/Data/Complex/Basic.lean:589:theorem add_conj (z : ℂ) : z + conj z = (2 * z.re : ℝ)` — that theorem is IN namespace Complex (the file's namespace). The `conj` there refers to... let me check what `conj` is in that file — maybe it's `starRingEnd ℂ` directly or an un-namespaced `conj`. Let me grep the definition.
2. Line 97 "No goals" — the h2 sub-proof inside hbound: `rw [hSn1] at *` — wait no, line 97 is in hsumj area? Line 97 col 18: "No goals to be solved" — that's in the `have h2 : w ^ j - 1 = ...` proof: `have h := hgeomj; rw [hw1] at h; rw [← h]; ring` — hmm, line 97... Actually counting lines, ~97 is around `rw [hSn1] at *` in the sum calc block — `rw [hSn1] at *` rewrote everywhere and closed the goal?? The error "No goals to be solved" at 97:18 — looking at my file, line 97 is `exact Finset.sum_le_sum hbound` area after `rw [hSn1] at *`. The `rw [hSn1] at *` is wrong — the goal at that point is already `∑ ‖w^j − 1‖ ≤ ∑ (1/‖z‖)*(...)` — hSn1 rewrite isn't needed there at all (I mistakenly added it; the goal is after the first calc step which is about the sum of norms — wait no: the calc chain: step 2's goal is `∑ j ∈ range n, ‖w^j − 1‖ ≤ ∑ j ∈ range n, (1/‖z‖)*(j*M)` — that follows directly from Finset.sum_le_sum hbound. The `rw [hSn1] at *` was spurious (the hSn1 was already used at the START of the calc — wait, no: looking at my calc, I never rewrote the goal with hSn1! The first line is `‖∑ (w^j − 1)‖` but the actual goal is `‖S − n‖ ≤ ...` — I need to rw [hSn1] BEFORE the calc. Let me restructure: rw [hSn1] first, then calc.
3. Line 103: `apply Finset.sum_le_sum` unify failure: goal `∑ ‖w^i‖ ≤ ↑(∑ (1+1/(2n))^(n-1))` — the RHS has a CAST ↑ around the sum — that's from `nsmul_eq_mul` rewriting earlier? No — this is in the hsum proof's second calc step: `∑ i ∈ range j, ‖w ^ i‖ ≤ ∑ i ∈ range j, (1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1)` — the error shows the goal with `↑(∑ ...)` — a coercion appeared. Hmm — actually the issue: `(1 + 1/(2*n))^(n-1)` where n : ℕ — the exponent n−1 is ℕ, the base is ℝ — fine. The `↑(...)` cast — maybe the goal's RHS got elaborated with nsmul (sum of constants = n • x where • is ℕ-action, displayed as cast). The `apply Finset.sum_le_sum` then fails because RHS isn't syntactically a sum of the right form... but it IS a sum — `↑(∑ i ∈ range j, (1+1/(2n))^(n-1))` — hmm, the cast suggests the RHS elaborated as `((∑ i, ((1:ℝ)+1/(2*↑n))^(n-1) : ℝ) : ℝ)`?? Weird. Oh wait — I see: the error's goal shows `≤ ↑(∑ i ∈ Finset.range j, (1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1))` — the ↑ might be from n : ℕ casting inside 2*n — no, it wraps the whole sum. Possibly my statement wrote `(1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1)` where Lean elaborated `(2 * n)` with n : ℕ → 2 * ↑n in ℝ — fine — and the outer ↑... Actually the displayed goal in the error has the sum preceded by ↑ — meaning the RHS is `Nat.cast` or `Int.cast` of something? That would come from `∑ i ∈ range j, (...)` being at type ℕ?? No...
Oh — I see it: in the calc step I wrote `∑ i ∈ Finset.range j, (1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1)` — but the calc relation needs the RHS type ℝ. The `↑` is probably the coercion from `∑ i ∈ range j, (...)` being parsed in a different monad... Actually simpler explanation: Finset.sum_le_sum's conclusion is `∑ f ≤ ∑ g` — my goal shows `∑ ‖w^i‖ ≤ ↑(∑ (...))`. The `↑` could be from `nsmul_eq_mul` lemma application in the PREVIOUS step's local context? No...
Hmm, wait — the error is at line 103:14 which is `apply Finset.sum_le_sum` in hsum's calc step 2. The goal shown ends with `≤ ↑(∑ i ∈ Finset.range j, (1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1))`. So somewhere the RHS became a cast. Why? Because I wrote the calc step as:
`_ ≤ ∑ i ∈ Finset.range j, (1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1) := by`
and Lean elaborates the expected type... the `↑` suggests it elaborated `(1+1/(2*n))^(n-1)` at type ℕ → cast to ℝ?? If `(2 * n)` were read as `(2 : ?)*n` with n : ℕ... The base `1 + 1/(2*n)`: `1 / (2 * n)` — with n : ℕ, if everything stays in ℕ, 1/(2n) in ℕ is 0! Then `(1 + 0)^(n-1)` in ℕ = 1, and the cast ↑1 = 1. THAT's the bug: mixed ℕ/ℝ elaboration — since the surrounding sum type isn't fixed yet, Lean may elaborate the numeric expression in ℕ! Because the calc step's RHS type is inferred from... the bound `∑ i ∈ range j, (1+1/(2n))^(n-1)` — the LHS is `∑ ‖w^i‖ : ℝ`, so the ≤ forces ℝ... but the sum inside could still elaborate its BODY at ℕ first? With expected type ℝ for the sum, the body should elaborate at ℝ... but the displayed `↑(∑ ...)` says the whole RHS is a cast of a sum computed in ℕ?? Actually the coercion is probably `Int.cast` or `Nat.cast` around the sum because the body type was inferred as ℕ: `(1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1)` — hmm, `1 / (2*n)`: if 2*n elaborates in ℕ (n : ℕ), then 1/(2n) : ℕ = 0 (Nat division). Yes — this is the classic Nat literal trap. In my hbound statement I wrote the same expression and there it was fine because the type of the inequality forced ℝ (‖w^j − 1‖ : ℝ)... but inside hsum's calc the `apply Finset.sum_le_sum` line is where types get unified: the RHS body elaborated at ℕ since nothing pinned it to ℝ before unification? The bound statement `(1 + 1/(2*n))^(n-1)` in hbound DID have ℝ type forced (compared against ‖·‖). Inside hsum's calc step, same expression — the expected type is ℝ (from ≤ with ℝ sum)... but Lean elaborates the body of the sum possibly without the expected type propagating? The fix: annotate `(1 + 1 / (2 * n : ℝ)) ^ (n - 1)` with explicit (n : ℝ) cast, or write `((1 : ℝ) + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1)`. I'll annotate everywhere: `(1 + 1 / (2 * (n : ℝ))) ^ (n - 1)`.
Same potential issue in other spots where I wrote (1 + 1/(2*n)) — hbound's bound: `(1 / ‖z‖) * (j * (1 + 1 / (2 * n)) ^ (n - 1))` — here the product with j : ℕ cast — j * (...) forces ℝ? j : ℕ, (1+1/(2n))^(n-1) : ? — `j * X` : ℝ requires X : ℝ so X should elaborate at ℝ... it worked in the error trace? The errors listed don't include hbound's statement, so it elaborated fine. But to be safe, annotate all occurrences as (2 * (n : ℝ)).
4. `Complex.conj` unknown: from the grep, `theorem add_conj (z : ℂ) : z + conj z` at Data/Complex/Basic.lean:589 — so within that file, `conj` resolves to something. It's likely `starRingEnd ℂ` with local notation, OR conj is defined in a DIFFERENT namespace. Let me grep the conj definition.
Two issues: a Nat-literal trap (need `(n : ℝ)` casts) and `conj`'s actual name. Checking the conj definition.
