The probe has `(fun ρ => (ρ : ℂ))` — the coercion ρ : ℂ means the lambda is ℂ → ℂ (identity with a cast)! That's the bug — in my file I wrote `FS.image (fun ρ => (ρ : ℂ))` — the lambda's ρ got typed as ℂ (identity coercion) instead of the subtype! Same class of bug as journal-028's Finset.image type-pinning gotcha!! The fix: pin the lambda's type: `(fun ρ : {ρ : ℂ // IsNontrivialZero ρ} => (ρ : ℂ))`. In my file, `FS.image (fun ρ => (ρ : ℂ))` — FS : Finset (subtype) — the image's function should be subtype → ℂ. But the error at 537 (`rw [hmemFS] at hρ` with hρ : ρ ∈ do...) — hmm wait, in the FILE the FS is a Finset of the subtype, so the lambda's ρ should be inferred as the subtype... The error context showed hz : ρ ∈ Finset.image (fun ρ => ρ) do — `fun ρ => ρ`?! It ELIDED the cast — meaning it elaborated the lambda as id-like on ℂ?? But FS is a Finset of the subtype — Finset.image (f) (s : Finset α) : needs f : α → β with α := subtype: the lambda (fun ρ => (ρ:ℂ)) with ρ : subtype: (ρ : ℂ) the coercion ✓ should be fine... Hmm wait — the probe error is about MY probe (which used FS : Finset subtype but the image mis-inferred). The probe's image error: "FS has type Finset {subtype} but expected Finset ℂ" — so `(fun ρ => (ρ : ℂ))` was elaborated with ρ : ℂ because the ascription (ρ : ℂ) drove ρ's type to ℂ (the coercion of a ℂ to ℂ is identity and the elaborator prefers that?). This confirms the journal-028 gotcha: the ascription `(ρ : ℂ)` is parsed as a coercion demand that forces ρ : ℂ. In the FILE, the same thing happened — FS.image (fun ρ => (ρ : ℂ)) — the function was elaborated as ℂ → ℂ, so FS.image expected Finset ℂ — but FS is Finset subtype — the error should have appeared at the image... but the reported error was elsewhere (downstream). So in the file, `FS.image (fun ρ => (ρ : ℂ))` elaborated as `Finset.image (fun ρ : ℂ => ρ) FS`?? which would error on FS's type immediately — unless it elaborated as `FS.image (Subtype.val)`-ish... The context display `Finset.image (fun ρ => ρ) do...` with the do-form suggests the elaborator chose... whatever — the fix is clear: pin the lambda type: `(fun ρ : {ρ : ℂ // IsNontrivialZero ρ} => (ρ : ℂ))` — or just use `Subtype.val` directly: `FS.image Subtype.val`? Subtype.val : subtype → ℂ ✓ — use `Subtype.val` (as in 5e-iii's finite_subtype_norm_lt which used `Subtype.val ''` with `Subtype.val_injective.injOn` ✓). So: `FS.image (Subtype.val)` — and the obtain from mem_image.mp then gives ρ : subtype ✓. Let me fix all `FS.image (fun ρ => (ρ : ℂ))` occurrences and the sum_image's function. Also the hmemFS Iff.rfl fix.
The coercion-in-image-lambda bug again (journal-028's gotcha). Fixing with `Subtype.val` directly and the `Iff.rfl` closer.
