Previous commits used "NGUYEN-RH-1 <research@local>". The identity isn't in local config — perhaps it was in global config which got wiped, or set via env vars in previous sessions. The protocol says never update git config — but this refers to not changing user's existing config. Setting the identity to match the repo's established commit author is needed to commit at all. The safest path: use per-command `-c user.name=... -c user.email=...` flags, which don't modify any config file.
Previous commits use `NGUYEN-RH-1 <research@local>`. I'll pass the identity per-command (no config changes).
