Now I need to remove the rest of the superseded content from STATE.md (the long session-039/038/037 headline sections, the old CURRENT POSITION / ACTIVE PLAN / NEXT ACTION / superseded sections) — they're now superseded by the new top. The old file had:
- "## SESSION 039 HEADLINES" (lines ~35-72)
- "## SESSION 038 HEADLINES" (lines ~73-168)
- "## SESSION 037 HEADLINES (superseded...)" (~170-207)
- "## CURRENT POSITION" (~209-265)
- "## ACTIVE PLAN" (~267-283)
- "## NEXT ACTION" (~285-444)
- "### Superseded: ..." sections (~446-461)
Then "## COMPLETED (Sessions 001–010)", "## OPEN CONJECTURES / THREADS", "## BLOCKERS", "## HANDOFF NOTES" — keep those (they're still valuable; the handoff notes especially).
Let me check what follows my new "## NEXT ACTION" block in the current file — the old content should still be there. I'll replace the whole span from the old "## SESSION 039 HEADLINES" through the old NEXT ACTION/superseded sections with a single compact retrospective pointer, keeping "## COMPLETED (Sessions 001–010)" onward.
Now removing the superseded middle sections of STATE.md (sessions 037–040 retrospectives and the old plan/next-action blocks), keeping the COMPLETED/conjectures/handoff tail.
