The probe with the EXPLICIT REDEX tail `(fun m => ...) (n + N)` compiles — `exact (hker_summ.sum_add_tsum_nat_add N).symm` closes it! So the issue IS the beta-redex: h's tail has the un-beta-reduced form `(fun m => body) (n+N)` and my goal's tail has the reduced form — and `exact`'s isDefEq SHOULD handle beta... but apparently the specific form here doesn't unify — because the `(n + N : ℕ)` vs the application... whatever — the fix is clear now: state hsplit's tail in the REDEX form, OR rewrite with the redex-bridges. Simplest: keep hsplit's statement as-is (readable reduced form) and prove: ``` have h := hker_summ.sum_add_tsum_nat_add N -- h : ∑ i ∈ range N, f i + ∑' i, f (i+N) = ∑' i, f i with f := the lambda rw [show (∑' n : ℕ, ((((n + N : ℕ) : ℝ) + 1) * (A + ((n + N : ℕ) : ℝ) + 1))⁻¹) = ∑' n : ℕ, (fun m : ℕ => (((m : ℝ) + 1) * (A + (m : ℝ) + 1))⁻¹) (n + N) from rfl] rw [show (∑ n ∈ Finset.range N, (((n : ℝ) + 1) * (A + (n : ℝ) + 1))⁻¹) = ∑ n ∈ Finset.range N, (fun m : ℕ => (((m : ℝ) + 1) * (A + (m : ℝ) + 1))⁻¹) n from rfl] exact h.symm ``` The two show-rfl's convert my goal's components to the redex forms (defeq by beta ✓ rfl proves the equalities of the tsums/sums since the summed FUNCTIONS are defeq — wait: the show's equality: ∑' n, (reduced body) = ∑' n, (lambda)(n+N): these differ by the function: (fun n => reduced-body-at-(n+N)) vs (fun n => (lambda)(n+N)): defeq ✓ rfl of the tsum equality — tsum_congr-level: the two tsums are equal because the functions are FUNXTAB-defeq — `rfl` proves `tsum f = tsum g` iff f ≡ g syntactically... NO — rfl proves X = X; tsum f = tsum g with f defeq g — `rfl` works iff f and g are defeq-convertible (rfl's check is defeq ✓). The functions: fun n => reduced(n+N)-body vs fun n => (lambda)(n+N) — these are the SAME up to beta ⟹ defeq ⟹ rfl ✓ (like the probe, which closed with exact — the show-rfl has the same defeq burden). Hmm — but the probe closed with exact directly on the redex-form goal — so exact's defeq handled it. The real goal (reduced form) should ALSO be handled by exact's defeq (beta is part of defeq!)... yet it failed. The difference: in the real file the goal has `(((n + N : ℕ) : ℝ) + 1)` and h's tail has `(fun m => ...) (n + N)` — beta SHOULD unify these... The exact failure suggests the defeq check didn't get there — possibly due to `set`-introduced let-variables making isDefEq slower/different, or the tsum's function-level unification going through a path that doesn't beta... Whatever — the show-rfl bridge approach is proven by the probe to work with exact. But my show-rfl's `from rfl` must itself pass the defeq check — SAME defeq issue might bite there. Ugh. SAFEST: state hsplit's tail in the redex form directly (as the probe did) and prove with exact h.symm; then provide the readable form via a separate congruence... but hsplit is consumed by hkernel_bound's `rw [hsplit]` — the redex form is fine for that. Let me just write hsplit with the redex tail.
The probe closes with the explicit redex tail. Writing hsplit that way.
